Centre for Social Justice publishes voluntary sector coronavirus resilience report

1 April, 2020

The Centre for Social Justice has published a report on the resilience of the voluntary sector during the Coronavirus outbreak.

The report looks at the impact on the sector’s income and makes a number of asks to government.

It finds that the income that charities gain from trading, fundraising and investments have all been impacted by the recent restrictions. The report states that cash flow will be a serious issue for many charities and that a number of voluntary organisations may close due to this.

The asks of government include:

  • To establish an emergency grant fund
  • Defer NICs and VAT payments
  • Guarantees for financial institutions that lend to charities
  • To press the insurance sector into covering COVID19 under business interruption cover.
  • Explicitly extend small business support to charities
