Since 1999 the Leeds Building Society Foundation has donated more than £2,000,000 to 3,000 local projects and good causes across the UK, which support those who are disadvantaged or in vulnerable circumstances. The Foundation primarily provides funding towards practical items that directly support those in need including those with disabilities, affected by homelessness, or with serious health issues.

Grants plus business support are available to social entrepreneurs that are looking to start or grow an existing social venture. The funding is being made available through the UnLtd the leading provider of support to social entrepreneurs in and around the UK. The grants are being made available through two funding streams:

• Grants of up to £15,000 to grow an existing social enterprise

• Grants of up to £5,000 to start a new social enterprise.

Grants of between £15,000 and £75,000 are available to charitable organisations (registered charities or equivalent) which provide care and services for older people, particularly if they have a neurodegenerative condition or are isolated. The Wolfson Foundation will provide funding for new build, refurbishment or equipment projects which aim to:

 • Increase access to services for new and existing users

• Improve the quality and range of services

BBC Children in Need, working in partnership with BBC Radio 1Xtra, have launched a £10 million programme to empower Black children and young people through youth social action. The ‘We Move: Youth Social Action Fund’ is open to not-for-profit organisations across the UK currently working with disadvantaged children and young people, at least 75% of whom self-identify as Black, to empower them to use their voice to tackle subjects that matter to them. This could include activities such as influencing, fundraising and volunteering.

The Hilden Trust currently has two grant streams open for applications; Refugees and Asylum-seekers and Penal Affairs. 

Grants are for between £5k and 7K, and can be awarded as project, core or unrestricted according to need.

UK Registered charities can apply for grants of up to £5,000 for international social relief projects. Didymus, the grant making charity, will award funding for projects that support work amongst disadvantaged communities in the UK, Africa, and Central and South America which fulfils one of the charity's five goals:

• Encouraging social inclusion

 • Advancing education

• Developing the arts

The Screwfix Foundation has re-opened for applications from charities and not for profit organisations for projects that will fix, repair, maintain and improve the properties and community facilities of those in need by reason of financial hardship, sickness, disability, distress or other disadvantage throughout the UK. Grants of up to £5,000 are available for all kinds of projects, from repairing buildings and improving facilities in deprived areas, to decorating the homes of people living with sickness and disabilities. Applications are reviewed on a quarterly basis.

Grants of up to £5,000 are available to registered charities to support projects that equip people (18 or older in order) from disadvantaged groups with critical life skills necessary for employment. Priority will be given to projects that target people experiencing multiple deprivation or other groups facing major hurdles to employment, especially; women, people with physical, mental, or learning disabilities, refugees and asylum seekers. The funding is being made available through the Thomas Wall Trust. and to be eligible the applicants must:

Little Lives UK is offering grants of up to £2,200 through its Children’s Community Support Programme to provide services to disadvantaged and disabled children. The programme is open to applications from children’s groups and organisations such as play groups or sports classes. The Children’s Community Support Programme is also open to applications from other projects, as long as their primary objective focuses on providing services to disadvantaged and disabled children.

This funding is for projects that build stronger connections across communities. The Community Fund is looking for ideas that strengthen these connections by exploring and developing the conditions needed to build better and longer-lasting ways of bringing people together.
