Job Overview
Ignite Life (Registered Charity Number: 1181408) are looking for trainee creative/play therapists to undertake an academic year’s volunteer placement with us, working with 2-3 children/young people per week.

In return we will offer comprehensive support in the form of placement/volunteer manager 1:1 support and also clinical supervision.

Ignite Life

Ignite Life is a youth charity supporting vulnerable young people up to the age of 25 across the Southwest with varying levels of need. Ignite’s mission is to make a positive and lasting impact on every young person, giving them the confidence and support needed to achieve their true potential, regardless of the challenges they face. Ignite has three main services which aim to work collaboratively to support young people, these are mentoring, therapy and food support. We are looking to develop a student placement programme in order to expand our services and increase the accessibility of creative/play therapies to children and young people in our community who may not be able to access therapy otherwise.

This voluntary role would be suitable for:

Students who are training on a course accredited by Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC), or other professional body, looking to complete required therapy hours with children and young people.

The appropriate person will be able to commit to 6 months with Ignite Life, be able to attend regular supervision as well as placement/volunteer manager meetings as well as our Ignite Life’s induction/training programme.

Location:

Ignite Life is based in Impact Mentoring’s centre in Kingswood, on the border of South Gloucestershire/ Bristol. We have on-site parking, and are a 15-minute drive from the M5.

Therapy sessions will either take place at Ignite’s centre or in one of the local primary/secondary schools with whom Ignite have an existing working relationship. There is also a possibility to hire a local therapy space for work should this be mutually beneficial.

Role Description:

 To provide 1:1 therapy to children and/or young people referred to Ignite Life.

 To work within and abide by the ethical framework of the HCPC or equivalent governing body.

 To attend Ignite’s induction programme and safeguarding training.

 To adhere to Ignite’s safeguarding policy and procedures, reporting all safeguarding concerns to Ignite’s safeguarding lead.

 To attend regular placement manager meetings involving case management, etc. and attend regular clinical supervision, provided by Ignite.

 Dynamically risk assess the work and be responsible for the health and safety of themselves and the child/young person they are supporting.

 Work professionally and effectively following Ignite policies and procedures to ensure the

safety of children and young people accessing our service.

 To engage in training and development appropriate to the role.

 To work within Ignite’s philosophies, codes of conduct and policies and procedures

 To respect the confidentiality of the children, young people and families accessing Ignite’s

services.

 To maintain appropriate and confidential records including CORE YP assessment.
