Bristol Tree Craft is a small, dynamic C.I.C. using traditional craft skills to tackle social isolation and unequal access to nature. We run multiple weekly free-to-access group sessions in local natural spaces, making unique items out of ‘waste’ wood using heritage tools & techniques. Inclusivity and empowerment are at our core: we work closely with other locally-rooted community organisations to reach our participants, enable their connection with green space and foster their agency through learning woodcraft. We work primarily with NEET youth, refugees/asylum-seekers, and people accessing mental health support and/or addiction recovery services.
We are looking for a creative, communicative person to fill the role of Green Leader Youth Support. This entails supporting 6x young people, aged 16-25 and facing a variety of mental health challenges, to undertake a ‘Green Mission’ in their community. This could be anything that promotes the importance of trees & green space in Bristol and increases people’s positive engagement with the same. Young people on the scheme will have volunteered to join this scheme after participating in an 8-week ‘Woodcraft & Wellbeing’ programme run by Bristol Tree Craft at Bridge Farm, learning heritage woodcraft and using it as a springboard to engage with the importance of trees & green spaces for a more sustainable, just future.
Attending the last session(s) of each programme to frame the project to the group & meet sign ups.
Meeting with each sign up independently & helping them decide what they want to undertake as their ‘Green Mission’.
Supporting each young person with the organisation & completion of their mission, checking in at regular intervals.
Telling the story of each young person on our social media/newsletter/website.
Producing an event at the end of 2025 to showcase the work done by Green Leaders & tell the story of the project.
**We encourage people to apply who may have experienced obstacles with employment due to a multitude of pressures in this society. Please get in touch if you have specific questions around access needs, extra support or anything else.**
High level of experience working one-to-one with young people in a supportive role.
Experience in outdoor creative community engagement.
Excellent communication & relationship-building skills.
Good digital marketing & storytelling skills: Graphic design, web design & social media development/strategy.
