JOB PURPOSE:

This post will be based at Andrew House Therapeutic Community providing support to men who have experienced trauma, working alongside the Community Leader, Volunteer Plus Manager, Counsellor and team of volunteers. The support worker will offer holistic support to residents on their journey towards healing and wholeness, by building supportive relationships which encourage independent living and a positive, sustainable future.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

Housing Management

  • Complete regular health & safety checks

Ensure residents:

  • sign licence agreement, understanding their rights & obligations
  • are inducted into the accommodation, ensuring they understand the residents handbook, including health & safety requirements
  • feel settled and safe in the house
  • complete required benefit applications and other admissions processes
  • attend relevant appointments related to maintenance of housing provision

Support

  • Provide 1:1 support to a caseload of up to 8 residents, building trusting relationships using a trauma-informed approach
  • Co-producing and reviewing care plans alongside residents to identify support needs and promote independent living
  • Provide advice and support to access internal and external agencies, referring into services as appropriate
  • Encourage development of peer support networks and positive relationships within the house
  • Identify and encourage engagement with support networks within the community
  • Provide practical and emotional support to residents in the house
  • Facilitate group work to promote personal growth and life skills
  • Facilitate house meetings to ensure practical smooth running of the house
  • Facilitate and support communal activities as part of the house routine
  • Provide support as required to non-residential participants in the Volunteer Plus programme which may include women
  • Offer out of hours support on a rota basis, usually over the phone but including in person support if required.

Risk Management

  • Develop and maintain risk management plans and share information as appropriate
  • Undertake safeguarding actions to protect adults at risk as appropriate, share information internally and externally as appropriate
  • Regularly review risk plans and amend plans as appropriate when circumstances change
  • Comply with all Changing Lives Charity’s policies, including their substance misuse testing policy and procedure

Record keeping and monitoring

  • Maintain up to date, accurate, legible records and monitoring data relating to key-working using agreed outcome measures
  • Prepare any additional information or key-working reports as required
  • Complete handover records and participate in handover meetings with staff members and volunteers

General

  • Actively participate in regular one-to-one supervision, line management meetings and annual appraisals.
  • Attend and make a positive contribution to staff / team meetings and to participate in organisational training and development events as required.
  • Act as a representative of Changing Lives Charity at internal and external meetings, as required, promote the organisation through building professional links with outside bodies as appropriate.

Experience

Minimum 2 years experience of working within substance misuse, mental health and/or homelessness field

Experience of working with external agencies and organisations

Experience of working 1:1 with service users

Experience of carrying out support planning and risk assessments

Experience of successfully managing challenging behaviour

Relevant qualification (NVQ3 level 3 substance misuse / health & social care)

Experience of working in trauma informed environment

Lived experience of related issues with minimum 3 years abstinence / 3 years mental health episode free
