Details of Role:

Children are growing up without the essentials they need to thrive. With a third of children under five years of age living in poverty in the UK and one million children facing destitution (Joseph Rowntree Foundation), families are having to make impossible choices between paying the bills, buying food or turning the heating on.  Poverty can have a  profound impact on babies and young children’s developmental outcomes, lifelong health, education and earning potential.

Baby Bank Network was set up in Bristol in June 2015 to help alleviate child poverty. We collect baby clothes, toiletries, equipment, cots, prams and toys that are pre-loved, and pass them on to families in need.  Our referral partners include health visitors, children’s centers and other local professionals who work with vulnerable families and our latest impact report is available on our website https://www.babybanknetwork.com/our-impact/

BBN is looking for a talented and enthusiastic marketing and communications professional to join our Board to guide and advise the charity in developing and implementing a realistic marketing and communications strategy in support of our fundraising plans and to ensure we connect across multiple channels with our local community and wider stakeholders.

We encourage candidates who can help increase the diversity of the Board so as to make our organisation more inclusive, especially those who have an interest in making a difference to the lives of families in Bristol.

BBN is proud to be :

Local – we help young families thrive with the help of donations and support from our community and our amazing volunteers working to get items to families who need them most.

Sustainable – we work with our local community and reuse and recycling projects to promote good environmental practice.  We aim to minimise waste and redistribute all suitable donations.

Collaborative – we will work with our local referral partners to help us reach families most in need and seek to support and work with other organisations whose goals are in line with our own.

Open and accountable – we are fair, efficient and transparent in the way we run our charity.

The Board meets approximately every 6 weeks, usually in the evening and via MS Teams or in person. You may also have other ad hoc tasks to be undertaken in between meetings to provide advice and guidance to the leadership team on specific issues and projects and from time to time we ask Trustees to support the charity in one off fundraising events.
