What Is 'EMPOWERED'? 

EMPOWERED is an exciting awards event, celebrating the achievement of young people from Bristol's diverse and underserved inner city communities. The event also aims to provide a platform to showcase young peoples' talent and inform them about local support services.

 

 What Are The Nomination Categories For  EMPOWERED? 

The below categories are open to those aged 25 and under. Three nominees will be shortlisted from each caterory. Two nominees will be runners up with a certificate and one nominee as the overall winner.

 

  • Enterprise Award – A young person who has identified a need in society and is using his/her enterprise skills/knowledge to meet them. The award celebrates young entrepreneurs  or young people working to become self-employed (1x winner 2x runners up)

  • Education Award – A young person exceeding expectations in education in its various forms: from overcoming barriers to learning, to achieving top ranking marks. The award celebrates young people who place value on knowledge and learning. (1x winner 2x runners up)

  • Community Award – A young person who takes action in society; always helping others, puts community first, or works exceptionally hard for a cause close to their heart. The award celebrates young volunteers and civil servants. (1x winner 2x runners up)

  • Arts Award – A young person who exceeds expectations when they express their talent through performing, writing or visual arts. This award celebrates young artists, animators, sculptors, architects, photographers, filmmakers, singers, dancers, actors, bloggers and authors. (1x winner 2x runners up)

  • Sports Award – A young person who exceeds expectations on the field, at the highest level. This award celebrates talented, passionate, driven and dedicated young sportsmen and coaches. (1x winner 2x runners up)

  • Choices Award – A young person dealing with significant lifestyle changes, adversity or a challenging circumstance in a positive way. This award celebrate young carers, driven ability-impaired young people and/or reformed offenders. (1x winner 2x runners up)

  • Leadership Award – A young person who frequently demonstrates acts of courage or exerts positive influence on other young people, his/her local community or Bristol as a society. This award celebrates future politicians, community leaders and business leaders. (1x winner 2x runners up)

  • Science & IT Award – A young person who exceeds expectations at making new discoveries, gadgets or systems that can improve the lives of others in society. This award celebrates young scientists, tech enthusiasts and aspiring engineers. (1x winner 2x runners up)

 How Can I Be Part Of EMPOWERED? 

 

  • Nominate a Young Person - Do you know of any outstanding young person living in the diverse communities of Bristol? Nominate them for an award using the following categories: Enterprise, Education, Community, Arts, Sports, Choices (dealing with adversity), Leadership and Science & IT. You can do this by registering above as a ticket option. 

  • Register to attend the Event - EMPOWERED will be an inspiring evening of entertainment, information, light refreshment and networking; amongst aspiring young people and professionals from a diverse range of industries such as Business, Media, Public Service, Sports, Engineering, IT, Education, Law,  and the Creative Arts. You can attend by registering above as a ticket option. 

  •  Make A Donation Towards The Event- Babbasa is an innovative social enterprise providing inner city young people with experiential skills training and alternative education. Through EMPOWERED, we  can give up to 10 young people the opportunity to develop their workplace skills and experience by working on the live project. You can support us to cover some of the overheads involved in organising the event or training young people by making a donation above.

  • Host an Infromation Stall - Do you have interesting and worthwhile opportunities to promote to young people? If you are a business or youth support service who'd be interested in hosting an information stall at EMPOWERED, please register your interest  by registering above as a ticket option. Any queries, email Amy on admin@byep.org.uk.

  • To acknowledge, celebrate and support young role models with a view of encouraging positive action amongst other young people

  • To raise the aspirations of young people in the area and positively influence the perceptions of society respectively

  • To provide young people the opportunity to acquire new skills, qualification and work experience by supporting to design, develop and deliver the event

  • Provide a space to foster stronger relationships between young people and local residents from diverse  communities (Promoting safer communities)

  • We are a local business, can we sponsor the event for some benefits in return?  As a social enterprise supporting youth aspirations, Babbasa is committed to developing long lasting relationships with local businesses.   • Is my registration/ticket transferrable?  You can transfer your ticket if you are not going to be able to attend. Do get in touch with us to discuss this.

  • Can I update my registration information?  Yes, please get in touch or log back in to Eventbrite to change your details or interest.

  • What is the refund policy?  Unfortunately we are not able to offer refunds for this event.

  • Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?  Even though we are likely to have a record, we strongly advise that you bring your ticket so we can check you in quickly.
