One-off, short-term grants are available for small charities, non-profits and schools to fund day trips for disabled or disadvantaged children aged under 13.

This year, The Henry Smith Charity has opened its Holiday Grants programme with more flexibility than ever before, in light of COVID-19 and its impact on already disadvantaged people. The funding is designed for day trips rather than residential stays, because of the uncertainty around holidays and travel during the pandemic.

Grants of £500-2,500 are available, and priority will be given to organisations based in the 20% most deprived areas of the UK (though with more flexibility for disabled children).

Example trips could include visits to:

  • Adventure activity centres.
  • Museums and cultural centres.
  • Sports events.
  • Theatres.
  • Theme parks.

The aim of the trip needs to be fun rather than educational, and trips should be for groups of children rather than families or individual children. Running costs for play or holiday schemes will not be funded.

You must apply at least six weeks before your trip is due to take place.

Applications close on Friday 13 August 2021.
