Are you working to create a culture of engagement in your organisation? There's a programme starting soon in Bristol that could support your professional development and boost your engagement levels.

The Engage Academy is NCCPE's (National Coordinating Centre for Public Engagement) year-long professional development programme for the public engagement sector. NCCPE is a Bristol-based organisation with a UK-wide remit, that aims to inspire and support organisations to connect the public with research.

Whether you work for a charity, for the public sector or a higher education organisation, the Engage Academy is for you, as long as your role primarily involves supporting others to engage - for example, through outreach work, patient involvement, citizen science, participatory arts activities, or engaging with partners.

The Engage Academy cohort meets in Bristol for three two-day sessions (the first session will be online and others as necessary) over the course of a year, exploring the role of purpose, process and people in underpinning good engagement practice. Each session combines:

  • Presentations from prominent individuals involved in engagement, funding and policy.
  • Practical workshops to test out ideas and tools.
  • Opportunities for peer-supported learning.
  • Mentors with specific expertise to help guide your learning.

Homework tasks in between sessions will help you get the most out of the development days. Everyone on the programme takes home practical tools to put into practice in their own workplace, and forms a cohort of supportive and knowledgeable public engagement colleagues.

Bursaries of 25% and 50% are available for those who would find the course costs high otherwise.

Find out more and book your place on the NCCPE website. Applications close on Friday 1 May 2020

If you would like to find out more and ask questions to see whether the programme may be right for your organisation, please contact Anja Dalton, NCCPE Project Officer, by email (anja2.dalton@uwe.ac.uk) or phone 0117 328 7061.
