All volunteers will be expected to cover the office on a morning or afternoon shift. If there are specific specialisms, the role will be tailored to suit individual skills and interests.

Office and Admin

We need people with office and admin skills. These volunteers will specifically help develop the office support to Ujima operations. Main duties will be answering phones, taking messages, managing incoming and outgoing post, supporting the BOS co-ordinators when on shifts, supporting presenters, greeting guests and ensuring day to day operations happen smoothly and professionally. Volunteers will also be expected to update internal documents as necessary and develop office processes where there are gaps.

Tech support

We are looking for support with our technical operations. This includes software and hardware support and troubleshooting, prep and support to deliver outside broadcasts, knowledge of the Myriad system desirable. These volunteers should have a high level of skill and knowledge in order to deal with issues quickly and completely. The nature of Ujima Radio mean this role is critical to the quality of our on-air presence and tech support is one of the busiest support roles at Ujima Radio. Volunteers will support the development of essential processes like issues reporting and logging, creating more efficiency and well as maintenance of equipment.

Sales and Fundraising

We are looking for support with developing our sales team. Sales experience useful but transferable skills will be considered. Supporting the Broadcast Manager, this volunteer role will include communication between the Broadcast Manager and finance, admin support, supporting the development of a sales approach, client retention and management and supporting the development of new business.

We also need support developing our fundraising efforts so looking for volunteers how have an interest in this area and can help Ujima develop this side of the business.

Production and Editing

We need volunteers with experience of production and people with editing skills. Whether formally trained or just have a knack for these things, people who can support our on-air activities as well as out outside broadcast work. This will include creating high quality adverts, scheduling pre-recorded shows, on-air support to some of our Radio presenters and editing content to suit the radio's needs. If interested in presenting, there are opportunities for volunteers who’ve passed a 6 month probation period.

Events and Marketing

We are looking for people with event management experience. After a successful fundraiser event over the Christmas period, Ujima Radio hopes to hold more events in 2018. Volunteers with experience in this area as well as people with strong organisational skills who also like to plan events are welcome. Closely linked to events is marketing so this experience would also be of interest.

Social Media and Communications

We need support in maintaining our presence on social media. We have an active Facebook and Twitter account but this can be expanded into other platforms. Volunteers with a keen interest or experience in the world of comms and social media will be working with our senior social media volunteer, supporting the development of a social media schedule, promoting key event and activities as well as developing Ujima’s ‘voice’, increasing the stations reach and message.
