Details of Role:

Bristol, North Somerset & South Gloucestershire (BNSSG) ICB are seeking to appoint independent members for the Independent Advisory Group (IAG) on Race Equality in Health & Care for an initial two year period.

The IAG is in its infancy; its aim is to provide guidance, insight and constructive challenge to the ICB that will lead to the formation of a genuine partnership with communities, encouraging the active involvement of people from all minority ethnic groups across BNSSG. The aim of the IAG is to ensure that the needs of the diverse communities of BNSSG are considered in all aspects of health policy and practice in the locality, to address health inequalities and improve the confidence of all communities in the health and social care provided.

IAG members will be representative of our diverse communities across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire; they will have an interest in health and care and its impact on our communities and be able to offer independent advice on achieving equity of access, experience and outcomes.

The IAG will meet four times a year, each meeting will be three hours in length. IAG members may also be asked to attend specific board meetings.

As an IAG member you may have access to confidential information and therefore will be required to complete a code of conduct statement (including aspects related to confidentiality), provide authorisation for police checks (vetting) as required and ensure that any interests that could affect, or be perceived to affect, independence and impartiality are declared.

While voluntary, the role attracts a recognition fee of £20 per hour, plus travel expenses.

Prospective members are asked to complete an expression of interest form in the first instance. This may then be followed by an informal discussion with a panel that will include the IAG Chair to discuss their suitability for the role. Discussion points may explore; why you would like to join, what communities you are part of and have an in-depth understanding about, how you might seek their views, the networks you are engaged in and whether you have the necessary time to participate in IAG activities
