Climate Action funding for Bristol community organisations

Learning and mentoring programme

The Community Climate Action Project learning and mentoring programme is aimed at supporting and encouraging more Bristol community organisations to co-develop their own community climate action plans. A community climate action plan is a document that outlines community priorities in relation to climate and nature that have been identified through a process of community engagement.

This programme will run from May 2024 to April 2025 and provides a £6,750 bursary per organisation, a series of free workshops, peer mentoring and resources to support more communities on their climate action journey, culminating in a final output of their community climate action plan in April 2025.

You don’t need to be an environmental focused organisation to apply. The programme is open to community organisations that are based in Bristol, who do not already have a community climate action plan. We are looking to recruit six organisations and are keen to support communities experiencing social and economic disadvantage who may face barriers to leading climate action locally.

Output: Community climate action plan developed through community engagement

Offer: £6,750 bursary, a series of free workshops, peer mentoring and resources

Timescale: May 2024 – April 2025

Deadline for applications: 10am Wednesday 27 March

Transforming Energy Together programme

The Transforming Energy Together programme is a unique opportunity for three Bristol community organisations to each receive up to £100,000 of funding and a tailored programme of support to plan the climate action (energy and homes focus) they want in their neighbourhoods and help secure the money to take action forward.

The programme is part of the Mission Net Zero project and will support three selected community organisations to engage with their local communities to identify and develop robust, feasible project plans and business cases for community-led energy projects.

These energy projects can focus on how to generate clean energy locally and how to reduce energy use in homes and neighbourhoods.

The programme is open to place-based community organisations with a community plan or previous activity exploring local energy or climate priorities and solutions.

There is a two-stage expression of interest process as we know time and capacity are tight within community organisations.

Stage 1 provide key information in the initial expression of interest form, option to attend an online information and Q&A session.

Stage 2 attend 1-2-1 surgery sessions (1 hour) ahead of completing a full expression of interest. A bursary of £150 per organisation applying is available to support staff time for the preparation and participation in the surgeries.

The Transforming Energy Together programme is delivered by Bristol Climate & Nature Partnership, Centre for Sustainable Energy and Bristol Energy Network, with support from Bristol City Council.

Output: An investment ready community energy project and business plan

Offer: Up to £100,000 of funding, peer learning, technical support, community engagement support, data and resources.

Timescale: June 2024 – October 2025

Deadline for initial expressions of interest: 10am Monday 25 March

Deadline for full expressions of interest: 10am Tuesday 7 May
