Are you a rock music lover who can play the guitar and has an hour to spare each week to teach a gentleman we support some basic guitar skills and chat about rock music?
Milestones Trust is a health and social care charity which supports people with learning disabilities, mental health needs and people living with dementia. The services are provided through a network of residential/nursing care homes and supported living homes throughout the Bristol and South Gloucestershire areas.
We support a gentleman in one of our mental health residential homes in Brislington who is in his 50s and loves rock music. He has two guitars (one electronic) and has expressed that he would love to have lessons and learn how to play them. He would also enjoy chatting about rock music with someone with a shared interest.
The lessons would happen via Zoom and possibly in person once volunteer visits to care homes resume.
You don’t have to be a professional guitar teacher but we are looking for a volunteer who:
The volunteer would build a positive relationship with the gentleman and enable him to have regular contact with someone with a shared interest and to develop his skills. You would make a real difference to the gentleman’s life by providing a connection and a meaningful activity during a very difficult time due to the pandemic.
You will receive induction and support to familiarise yourself with the gentleman virtually, and we will ensure that both you and the person we support are happy and comfortable before starting the lessons.
If this is something you would like to get involved with please get in touch, we would love to hear from you!
Please note, for all of our volunteer roles a DBS check will be carried out and references will be taken up.
