About Network

Network Counselling and Training provides over 3,000 session of affordable counselling a year, to clients of all backgrounds, regardless of ability to pay. We offer Advanced Certificate and Diploma qualifications in listening and counselling, enabling students to become qualified counsellors. We also offer several shorter courses in listening, counselling and personal development skills.

Network is currently operating remotely as a result of social distancing restrictions, and is planning to return to our purpose built counselling and training rooms at Elm Park Filton as soon as we are able to do so safely.

Network’s ethos is Christian and person-centred, and its services are inclusive and open to all. The small team has seen Network through nearly 35 years of providing affordable counselling in Bristol, and continues to respond to the needs of the community and the day to day challenges of running a small charity during the current crisis. We rely on volunteers to provide our service, from our 40 volunteer qualified counsellors, to you!

About the role

Network’s 2019-23 Strategy recognises the need for us to improve our internal systems and processes so that we can be more effective in what we do and make better use of our time. The team have responded brilliantly to the current crisis and the shift to working from home, but a lot of our systems are clunky and need to be refreshed.

As IT and Web Project Volunteer, you’ll take on the role of making our technology work for us. We need someone who can:

  • Migrate our files to Sharepoint
  • Show our team how to use Sharepoint
  • Work with the team and on our Wordpress website to:
    • Review and edit content
    • Review and edit navigation/structure
    • Tidy up the back end
    • Add social media to website
  • Work with the team to explore how we might use other IT options to support what we do, for example email marketing software, web data capture forms etc.

The role is an excellent way of bringing your technical skills to an organisation that supports mental health and wellbeing. You’ll own the role, take a lead in streamlining what we do and gaining an insight into the workings of a small charity. Each member of our small team, all of whom are part time, is vital in running Network, and you’ll be joining us in seeing the impact of your contribution up close.

About you

  • You will be competent with Microsoft Office 365 and Wordpress or other web building software, be a good problem solver and up for learning.
  • You will have a general understanding of the data protection requirements around handling personal data.
  • You are enthusiastic about the role that good software and IT best practice plays in allowing a team to work more efficiently and effectively.
  • You understand that many people have limited IT skills and confidence, and can talk to people in a clear and supportive way about the parts of a system that are relevant to them.
  • You may have experience in an IT support, web development or database admin role, or perhaps you are the person your friends and family turn to for help with everyday IT problems.
  • You will be available to meet (virtually at present) with the General Manager during the day on Mondays, Tuesdays or Thursdays, with some availability for the occasional meeting with the rest of the team to understand their needs or show them how to do things. The bulk of the role is time flexible.

We anticipate this role lasting for approximately six months.

As a volunteer with Network we can offer you discounted fees for joining our popular short courses in listening skills, counselling skills and personal development.
