Details of Role: 

We are looking for a new trustee to join our management board. You’ll be working with a team of committed, enthusiastic trustees supporting the work of MusicSpace. This is an opportunity to play an important part in the overseeing of a charity that makes a difference to people’s lives through music. We are particularly looking for people with  professional experience in law.

MusicSpace is a charity providing music therapy for people of all ages in Bristol and the South West since 1991. We use music making to help people communicate and express themselves. MusicSpace sees people for music therapy at our Bristol centre, and we also provide an outreach service throughout Bristol, Bath & North-East Somerset, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire and Gloucestershire.


As a trustee at MusicSpace you will be expected to attend and contribute to board meetings every two months and undertake associated work in between meetings as necessary.

As a trustee, you will have a responsibility to:

  • Support MusicSpace to achieve its aims and objectives
  • Ensure the charity functions within its legal and financial requirements
  • Ensure the continued financial stability of the organisation
  • Use specific skills, knowledge or experience to support the charity’s operations and its strategic decision making
  • Take part in board meetings and offer additional time between meetings as necessary
  • Be an ambassador for the organisation

Hours: part time

Attend trustee meetings 6 times a year. Additional ad-hoc support may be required depending on organisational need.

We are particularly looking for individuals with any of the following skills and experience:

  • A commitment to the organisation and its objectives
  • Professional experience in law
  • Experience or knowledge of small charities
  • Time to offer to the charity
  • Strategic vision and an ability to think creatively
  • Good, independent judgment
  • An ability to work effectively as a member of a team
  • An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship

MusicSpace in based in Southville, Bristol which is where the meetings are held.
