At our Dementia Meeting Centre in Bristol, we deliver support and activity sessions for people living with dementia and their care partners.

 

Purpose of the role

To support meeting centre members with dementia and their carers to enjoy sessions

To help develop a warm and friendly meeting centre community

 

What you will be doing

Welcoming members

Helping staff set up and carry out activities

Offering a friendly face and listening ear

Making and serving refreshments

Supporting people on trips and at events

Giving people information about other services

Helping clear away after sessions

 

Location and times

Tuesdays, Thursdays - mornings or afternoons

Westbury Fields Retirement Village,

Cricket Lane,

Bristol BS10 6TW

 

Our expectations

You feel comfortable being with older people, some of whom have mild to moderate dementia

You are willing to learn about dementia

You will attend Alive’s dementia training and other relevant training

You will let the Meeting Centre Manager know beforehand if you are not able to attend the session

You agree to an enhanced DBS check

Connecting with your local community and making a positive difference in the lives of people living with dementia and supporting them to adjust to a life navigating dementia

Meeting new people in your local area

Being involved with a wide range of fun activities (from crafts to games to trips out)

Learning more about supporting people with dementia and their carers - experiencing a person-centred approach to providing meaningful activities

First hand experience of volunteering within Social Care within the social model of disability

A reference, if desired

Work experience - working alongside staff who are trained within the dementia support field

Paid travel expenses (up to 10£ / day)
