Nominate for ‘The Voscurs’!

To celebrate the fantastic and innovative work done by the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector in Bristol, Voscur is pleased to announce a new award – ‘The Voscurs.’

There are four categories to recognise the achievements of the sector in Bristol (1-4), and one that recognises the support of the statutory sector (5). You can make more than one nomination per category but please clearly indicate which category the nomination is for.
The categories are:
1. The Most Active Community Activist -
Award for an individual who has made a difference in their community or across the city through volunteering, campaigning or otherwise making an excellent contribution to community activity in Bristol.
2. The Community Venue of the Year -
Award for the best community run publicly accessible space in Bristol in 2008
3. The Most Innovative / Engaging Project -
Award for the voluntary or community project that has used innovative ways to engage and involved people.
4. The 'I Will Survive' Award -
In the light of reduced funding, it has been a tough year for many voluntary and community projects. This award will recognise an organisation or group that has come fighting through difficult times.
5. The 'Thanks For Supporting The Sector' Award -
This award is for an individual or organisation from a statutory agency. It recognises the exceptional support given to a voluntary and community sector group or organisation by a statutory sector (local authority, NHS, police, fire service, etc) officer or department.

The nomination deadline is 31 July 2008. The shortlist of nominees will be advertised in the September Voscur newsletter and on our website. The awards will be presented at the Voscur Annual event on 2 October 2008.

Inclusion in Bristol Schools

· What does it mean in practice

Recent incidents in some Easton primary schools (read more here) highlight how essential it is to get inclusion right. This is your opportunity to find out what’s happening, and to feed into how it can be improved. Speakers include Paul Taylor, Children and Young People’s Service; Ian Caskie, Schools Improvement Manager; and Steve Stephenson, Race Equality and Human Rights Service.
